社會資本（social capital）

政治學家羅伯‧巴特南（Robert Putnam）在暢銷書《獨自打保齡球──美國社區的崩潰和復興》（Bowling Alone : The Collapse and Revival of American Community）一書，把「社會資本」定義為：「社會組織的特色，如網絡、規範和社會信任，可以為了共同的利益而促進協調和合作（the features of social organization such as networks, norms, and social trust that facilitate coordination and cooperation for mutual benefit）。」Crowdsourcing: Why the Power of the Crowd Is Driving the Future of Business）一書說，社會資本有如潤滑油，能讓我們的經濟機械運轉順暢。

南洋過番客與新移民 | 評論一文，提到巴特南的社會資本，說：「社會資本有兩種，契結資本（Bonding Capital；本blog註：譯成「凝聚資本」會不會比較好？）和橋接資本（Bridging Capital）。當你和同樣年齡、同種族、同宗教的人在一起來往的時候，就形成了契結資本；如果你和不同種族、不同年齡、信仰和背景的人來往，就形成了 橋接資本。在一個多元文化、種族的社會，橋接資本是社會安定凝聚力的基石。」

巴特南在他的書裡面這麼寫道：「凝聚社會資本有如社會強力膠，而橋接社會資本給我們社會潤滑劑。」（Bonding social capital constitutes a kind of sociological superglue, whereas bridging social capital provides a sociological WD-40.）
